A boy hold a copy of ABCDewey!

Hello, my sparkly friends! It’s Veronica here, currently trying to vacuum dog hair out of my keyboard while Dewey "helps" by barking at the vacuum like it’s a sentient vacuum-beast from the underworld.

After teaching English online for many years, I thought I knew everything about the ABCs. I had the posters, the catchy songs, and the "A is for Apple" drills down to a science. But then I brought home Dewey. As it turns out, Dewey has his own version of the alphabet, and it involves significantly more drool and significantly fewer apples. In this book, Dewey wants to learn how to read, and he starts with learning (and teaching) the alphabet.

If you’ve ever wondered what goes on in the mind of a dog who thinks a delivery box is his personal throne, then buckle up. Welcome to Dewey’s Guide to the Alphabet, where the "ABCs" stand for "Always Be Chasing-stuff."

In my book, ABCDewey: A dog's look at the alphabet, we take a romp through the letters from a four-legged perspective. But since you're here, let me give you a "behind-the-leash" peek at how this chaos actually happens in my living room:

B is for "Bone"

In Dewey-world, a bone is the ultimate currency. It’s not just a snack; it’s a treasure, a project, and a very sturdy pacifier. Watching him navigate the "B" for Bone is a lesson in pure, unadulterated joy. If only we all looked at our lunch with the same level of devotion Dewey shows to a marrow bone!

G is for "Guitar"

Believe it or not, Dewey thinks he’s a bit of a rockstar. Whenever I pull out the guitar, he treats it like a personal invitation to howl a backup vocal. It’s less "Eric Clapton" and more "Enthusiastic Howling at the Moon," but hey, the dog has rhythm! In the book, we see Dewey’s musical side, even if his "strumming" is mostly just pawing at the strings for attention.

D is for "Dewey" (Obviously)

The star of the show! But also D is for "Distraction." Have you ever tried to write a heartfelt children's book while a 30-pound dog is trying to sit on your lap because he saw a squirrel on the patio? It’s like trying to knit in a hurricane.

L is for "Lessons"

This is where my teacher-brain kicks in. I realized that kids learn better when they’re laughing. When they see a dog getting into mischief with the letter 'M' (for "Mud," usually), they aren't just learning a sound—they’re making a memory. Dewey is the world’s hairiest teaching assistant, and honestly? He’s probably more popular than I ever was.

Z is for "Zzzzz"

The best part of the day. After a long day of "helping" me write, Dewey collapses into a pile of fur and dreams of giant marigolds.

So, if you’re looking for a way to make the alphabet less of a chore and more of a giggle-fest, grab a copy of ABCDewey. It’s perfect for little learners, dog lovers, and anyone who understands that sometimes, the best way to learn is to follow a wagging tail.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go explain to Dewey that the letter 'S' is for "Stay," not "Sprint-after-the-neighbor's-cat." Wish me luck!
